Happy Mother's Day...

...to all you mothers. You know who you are.

We didn't do anything special. We saw Hitchhiker's Guide today. I was underwhelmed but still enjoyed it. Then we did some indecisive driving around and ended up at BJ's. Got a pizza to go. And that's it. My big Mother's Day. Fine with me.

I walked for an hour (pizza bad for diet) so that makes for a pretty good week of exercise. I didn't exercise yesterday but I did clean house for a few hours.

Wednesday I'm leaving for Texas with Dad. That means no posts for a week. Maybe I'll blog from Dean's house. Probably won't have the time, though. I'm sure lots of things will happen that I will want to write about. I'll be with Dad and the relatives so I'm sure that half the time I'll be enjoying the visit and the rest of the time I'll be going crazy. I'm going to really need that day and a half with Dean.

My son Liam saw Hitchhiker, said it was an enjoyable "B" movie. Underwhelming was his word as well.

Texas! No blogging? Yikes, what will I read?

Hey, guess what? I know your daughter Lindsey's boyfriend. Not well, but I know him. My son is a good friend of J. Grell. They go to the same school. He's a good guy, totally polite and is danged good at saying what he thinks.

How small world is that?

"saying what he thinks." Yeah, we've noticed that.

Yep, it's a small world.

This boyfriend has been a bit of a dilemma for us. She's 20 and he's 17. Do you know his mom? (cue Psycho violins) I think she's calmed down a bit. I haven't heard any reports lately.

Lindsay's pretty happy with him and I think he's learning a lot from her. He turns 18 in October. I wonder if he's expecting a "special present".

I've only met his parents once at a marching band concert. They seemed pretty ok there. I know they're very active with the marchng band. I didn't hear the psycho violins playing but you know marching bands are very loud.

Liam has described Jon as very, very rule driven. Doesn't really break any rules, rather he loves the structure...so maybe he won't ask for that special gift unless their married? I dunno, a mom can hope.

It seems like his life of living by the rules is starting to riccochet off in another direction. He's been having some problems with his parents lately although things seem to have settled down a bit.

Once Lindsay and Jon went to a They Might Be Giants event in Hollywood. Jon misunderstood about the location and told his parents he was going to Anaheim. His dad called and wanted to know what was going on. I explained to him that I thought it was a misunderstanding. They had been going to several events and one of them had been in Anaheim. The dad asked me to call the mom and explain it to her (he was at work). I called her and WOOSH! She chewed my ear for half an hour. Most people when they're upset will calm down after they've had their initial rant. Not her. I was just going uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh and couldn't get a word in.

Seriously, I think she needs a prescription for something.

Jon's a normal, 17-year-old male which means he's a total horn dog. That special present is on his mind, I'm sure. I guess I'm cool with that as long as they wait until he's legal.

I mean, jeez, what were WE doing at that age?

Yeah, I can see how the mom is over-protective. I think both his parents live vicariously thru Jon.

And true enough, 15, 16, 17, etc guys are total horndogs but I know in my sons group of pals they're mostly against doin the total nasty because they're pretty savvy about what it does to the relationship. Hopefully Jon is one of those guys, who thinks with his big head first.

Legadillo,
I like knowing about the cardinal chicks and the rains. It's spitting rain here, trying to make that all time high rainfall record.

Virginia- Yes, I think it's true that Jon's parents are living vicariously throught their son. He's an only child. That's a lot of pressure.

Dean- Cardinal chicks? AWWWWWWW!
