Working with these hands

I'm working on a project. I haven't done much since Jim died and that's not like me. I almost always have something to work on. So, now I'm cutting and gluing and singing a happy song (all to myself since I still don't have iTunes. The 17th is sooooo faaaarrrr awaaaaayyyy). I'm glad I'm back into it. I can get lost in my thoughts and work some things out.

But for now I have to stop doing this and take the truck in for body work estimates. Last week Bill borrowed the truck and some woman ran into him. Boy, this is a Roseanne Rosannadanna life. "Well, Jane, its always somethin'."

You know, you CAN import some CDs onto the mini while you're waiting for the big computer to come home. =P

I want to get back into oil painting!

Well, we don't have speakers for the small computer for one thing. Then when I try to play a song on iTunes it tells me that the original file can't be found. But it's not that way for every song. For some reason it's playing Pavarotti and Sting singing Panis Angelicus. So there you go.

EEK! I just got the first estimate for the truck. $3000! The whole truck isn't worth that. The woman who hit Bill doesn't want to go through her insurance company, she just wants to pay for the repairs. Tomorrow I'll take it someplace else.

Take the highest estimate and then go to the cheapest place. Take her money and run with it. I cannot believe she looked right at him and hit him.

Am glad you are doing some creating. I cannot be without something to do. I just can't.

Boy, I'll tell ya, it's been a long dry spell. I knew it would be good for me to be working on something. I decided to finish that uke case I started a loooong time ago. It's gotten to be a challenge. I have to affix the the straps so that they go through the outside fabric and attach firmly to the inside, under the foam and velvet lining. It's pretty tricky. The whole thing goes together like a puzzle. At every step I have to stop and think about how next to proceed. I love projects like this. It's fun figuring stuff out.

I did silk screening for a few years. I loved it! I really enjoy the step-by-step process of getting all the pieces figured out. Hmmm, maybe it's time to get back into it? After I move, of course.

I'm getting little glimpses of how the case will look when it's finished. It's kind of exciting.

Photos?

I'll mess around with photos when I get the Big Mac back. Heh! The case will be finished before then, most likely. You'll see it in person.

Wow, last night I was here entirely alone. Paige spent the night at her friend's (really, she doesn't live here anymore) and Lindsay and Kyle spent the night in LA with Kyle's parents and sister. Jeez, how many YEARS has it been since I sent a full night alone? It felt weird.

Quiet huh? I think it was last summer when Bilyc went somewhere (San Diego or Santa Cruz) and the kids were off spending the night with friends and I stayed at home.

Oddly quiet in house. and yes weird.

Yeah, it was quiet until the dogs woke me up with a full-blown barking freak fest. Some guy rang the doorbell this morning at 7:30. He's doing the grading on the land next door and wanted to know where our water main was.

Usually I wake up to the sound of grinding coffee beans.

I've hit a snag on the uke case project. I have to find a way to reinforce the strap attachment without adding too much bulk on the outside. I already have the foam and the lining glued in. I can get behind it but it's like some of the surgery shows I've seen. You gotta move those wiggly bits to the side and hold them in place while you work on a different wiggly bit. It's a tight space and it's very hard to see what's going on. If I can work some zip ties through they'd hold the straps perfectly. They'd be covered with fabric and foam. So, if I just had some surgical tools. A small, metal tube, like a paintbrush ferrule, would work beautifully. Ah, these are the things I think about while waiting for glue to dry.

Hmmmm, sounds like a new project to start so you can finish the case. I KNOW you must have a old paintbrush to tear apart and use the ferrule.

I'm going to use fencing wire. Problem solved.

This evening I walked the Rube with Ken, Sherri, Sherri's friend Nancy, preggers Robin and little Brandon. We took turns pushing Brandon's stroller up the hill (the steep side). Good workout. Ken is losing weight and he looks great!

After the walk I went to El Torito for one of my self-nurturing dinners. I've been doing this about once a month since Jim died. I'll order iced tea, the table side guacamole and the carnitas dinner. Oh yeah, and a shot of Patron Silver. I dunno, it just makes me feel good, like I'm caring for myself. And since the carnitas dinner is huge I can make two meals out of it.

And now to tackle that ukulele case!
