It was a little cooler this morning so I did some much-needed yard work. I didn't get it all done but I made a good start. Maybe when it cools off later I'll do some more.
I went to the Plaza this evening. I had planned to go to the bookstore, get dinner and then go see Superbad. I did go the bookstore and I did go to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. I still had an hour to kill so I got some coffee and sat to read my book. I started falling asleep. I decided I didn't want to be sleepy at the movies so I came home. I was going to come in here, put on iTunes and crash on the bed. When I started the music the first song to come on was Tweedle Dee by Lavern Baker. I thought, OOH! good uke song! So, I looked up the lyrics, figured out the chords and practiced it for about 45 minutes. So much for my nap.
Yay, I have a new song! I was wondering what I was going to perform at the next open mike. I usually do two songs because I keep them short and don't do a lot of talking. You're allowed 5 minutes total. Most people can't seem to keep it to five minutes even with just one song. They'll blather on and on about where they were when they wrote their song (like, really, who cares?) and then they'll sing it and it was way too long to begin with but they'll add a couple of instrumental breaks while the rest of us cringe and then fall asleep and then Jerry's chicken timer goes off but they keep going and going and going. Puh-leez!
The Brothers Karamazov. Jeff and I recently read The Brothers K which is loosely based on Brothers Karamazov. I think once I get used to the rhythm of the language I'll be ok. Right now it's kind of a tough read. It didn't help that I was so sleepy.
It's still too hot to do yard work. I'm looking forward to cooler days.
Man, no kiddin'. I read all the nickname and timeline stuff at the beginning of the book. Pretty convoluted. It's not going to be a fast read.
Today I started on my file project. I've really let them go in the last year. Got a LOT of stuff cleaned out and archived. I hit a bump when I got to Jim's files. There was some stuff in there that was v-e-r-y personal. Took care of that on the Weber. Some of his stuff gave me some heartache. Like his college transcripts and his job performance reviews. His health records. It's like all that's left of him is a bunch of paper. I know that's not true. We still have so much of him. But when I was cleaning out the files it was all about the paper. It felt wrong to put his stuff into archive.
Every once in a while I'll get jammed back into feeling like he's not really gone, that's it's impossible for him to be dead. How can he be dead? Dead happens to other people. Looking at his papers really brought that back.
So did you burn that stuff? The evaluations and the college records, etc.? I'm asking because I have a huge file cabinet in the garage of my mom's stuff that I still have to go through. It's been over 5 years now. Gonna be really hard to get rid of that stuff.
I didn't burn the evaluations but I did burn the transcripts. I actually don't know why. I figured that information still exists somewhere so I didn't need to keep it but after I burned it I wondered why I thought it was necessary.
I burned stuff from when we did the est training and the 6 Day Course. Jim and I had discussed all that a long time ago but it really wasn't anything he or I would have wanted the girls to see. I think I already destroyed my 6 Day stuff. Gawd, I hope so!
It's hard to know what to keep. I'm keeping all the medical records for a while. It's almost like reading a journal. Reading the stuff about his appendectomy brought back memories of that time. I made a big Jim archive envelope. I'll tuck it away for a while and then get rid of it eventually. I'll keep the best parts of Jim. The music and the photos mostly.

What book? My yard needs to be cleaned up. The hub has taken things out of the barn but has never put them away. I'm disheartened.

Jeez, nothing like a little light reading on a hot summer night.
Yeah, it ain't no Harry Potter.
Yeah--and everybody's got three or four names, not including NICKNAMES, all ending in -pov.
