I'm getting a bike

I've been thinking about it for a while. Nancy just sent me a note suggesting I get one. Really, it just makes sense. So, I'm goin' bike shoppin'!

Ooh, now I'm shivering with an-ti-cip................PATION!

I always enjoyed having a bike. I used to ride to work when I was pregnant with Paige, with Lindsay in a bike seat on the back! What pleasant days those were. And I'm sure that's why I recovered so quickly after giving birth.

I used to ride all over Riverside. I rode to RCC every day and once a week I'd ride to Rubidoux to clean house for John Ross, the choral director at RCC. (There are at least 6 of you readers who are now going, "Whaaaaa???") I rode with my banjo to take lessons at that music shop near the corner of Magnolia and Van Buren. Can't remember the name. I rode to the Odien's to go swimming. I rode to Jim's, to Dean's, to Ramona, to UCR, to The Wherehouse, to Licorice Pizza.

Heh! I'm riding down Memory Lane.

I'm getting a bike.

A beach cruiser? A 10 speed? One with a banana seat & a basket? What kind of bike?

I'd get a beach cruiser with a basket.

I want to get something that will ride well on city streets but also be able to handle trails. The last bike I had was like that. And it had a big butt seat. The one it came with was like some kind of torture device so I bought one that was like sitting on a big hand. I'll get higher handle bars this time. Nancy said her bike has the high handle bars. That was the one thing about my last bike that wasn't so comfortable.

When I was in third grade I had a bike with baskets on either side of the back wheel. I really liked that. I could carry a lot in those baskets. I'd like to use this new one for jaunts to the grocery store so big baskets would be a plus. I can carry a whole picnic in 'em. I dunno, we'll see.

Different subject- Paige had a party here last night. She invited the kids from Winter Drumline. They were still jumpin' at three this morning. It was great! They had a blast and I enjoyed hearing their loud conversations and laughter all night long. No really, I loved it. I did!

Yay-Yes!

Ooh, I can't wait to see how you "trick-out" your basket!! Wish I could ride with you. It's such great "me" time. And when you get home, the endorphines carry you through the day! (why is it we don't crash from endorphines like we do from sugar highs?)

So... whaddaya think about helmets? :-)

Hi, Ray!

Well, I just got back from the bike store. I got a Trek. Nothing flashy. It's black and dark brown. I like the size, nice and compact. It's comfortable to ride. I got a front mounted basket that's removeable. The side baskets won't work for this kind of frame. Everything out the door cost me $465. And yes, I got a helmet. First time I've ever owned one.

The seat isn't as big as the last one I had but it seems comfortable. If it doesn't work out I'll get a bigger one. The handle bars aren't real high but they seem right. The ride is fairly upright. I think I'm going to be happy with this bike.

It came with a cd-rom. Ah, these modern times.

Wow! I'm totally thrilled that you got yourself a bike! You said you'd been thinking about it. And likewise, I'd been thinking you'd like it. So I'm glad I did the little nudge!

At first I thought you said it came with a cd player!

Have fun!! Whee!

Nancy (signing my name because your blog wants me to be annonymous now) -- should I sign up for a Google account? Gheez, if I have to remember one more username/password . . . !

Good for you to get a bike! I had a two peugeots in high school - rode all over Berkeley!!! Kept me independent and mobile!

Nah, Nancy just go with anonymous - keep it simple, just remember to sign your name or everyone will think you're me!
