The first workshop

It's gonna be this little guy.

But rats! Most of my photos are out of focus! I didn't know it until I imported them into iPhoto. I'll have to make another one! Next time I'll take several pictures of each step. I want to use them to make instruction sheets that the students can take home.

Making this first one was a very useful exercise. I should have timed it, though. I think it took about 2 hours. I made detailed notes of each step. The last time I made one of these was when I worked with the kids in Paige's 4th grade class. This was good for refreshing my memory and refining the steps. It also showed me that I need to get a new quarter inch drill bit before teaching this class.

I'm probably going to make several of these little skeletons. Each one will be just bit better than the last.

Heh heh. Those are great. Is that raffia with a wire in it? Well, if you're not making notes, it shouldn't take so long to make them, right?

Very, very cute. I want to accessorize one with day of the dead clothing. A little tophat would be just the ticket.

What do you figure to charge for the class?

I think most of their classes are $10. I'm going to try to charge $12. It's such an easy project I think I can handle 10 people.

It's paper twist over wire. Yeah, they totally could be accessorized. I should do up a couple of them in Day of the Dead clothes. They do sell all kinds of doll accessories that would fit these guys just perfectly.

Grrrr.... Right now I hate Boz so much! He rolled in something awful and came into the studio and rolled again. It smells HORRIBLE in here and I can't find it!

He's been awful lately. He growls at Gracie when she's eating. I think he's figured out that she's old and weak and he can move into the alpha spot. He stinks ALL the time. I've turned him into an outside dog. Right now I really do hate him. He's always been kind of a shitty dog but at least he was cute and cuddly. If he doesn't have that he's got nothing.

Pets! Our little kitten, Ink, is a thief. We're always seeing her walking around with something in her mouth. This morning Paige can't find her birth control pills. We're pretty sure Ink took them. Maybe it's her revenge for us having her spayed last week.

Ok, I just made another skeleton and it took me an hour. I think I'll have the class be an hour and a half to accomodate the people who will have a little trouble. If there's extra time I can include some Halloween decorating tips. I'll send them away happy.

Must have Febreeze on hand at all times if you live with dogs who roll in shit, dead animals, etc.

Ink is a bad kitty. BC pills, doesn't she know she doesn't need them?

You might think about calling the class an hour and 15 and say you're willing to stay over to help anyone who needs it. Otherwise the ones who paid for a full 90 mins will get pissy. I've seen it happen.

You're probably right about that. I'll see how it goes with the first class. Some people will be able to knock it out in an hour but I think most people will take longer just because it's unfamiliar. And there will be the inevitable chit-chat, which wastes a lot of time. I'm ok with it as long as people are having a good time and we're getting things done. Within reason, of course.

The secind one I made turned out better. I'm getting some of the bugs worked out.

Ok, my pictures for the second one didn't turn out that great but they're a bit better. I can keep refining as I go along. I sure do have a shaky hand.

I'm trying to make them all into an instruction booklet. Hoo boy, I've forgotten a LOT of Photoshop, especially when it comes to working with text. I'm going to have to get out the ol' book and read up. This is good. It's going to be a struggle at first but eventually I'll get the hang of it. And once these booklets are done, they're DONE.

If I run out of time I can at least do the instructions in Word and have the photos on a separate page.

If you have any ?'s on PS, I can probably help you. I'm just a phone call away.

Thanks! I managed to figure out what I needed for today. I got 4 pages of the instruction booklet done. I'm pleased with that. I still ran into snags but was able to get around them.
