Kitchen with built-ins

I love the cabinets but they have quirks. One of these days I'll change the hardware back to something more 50's. I'm not wild about the tile but it isn't bad.
I loooove this built-in unit. You can see some remnants of Gammer's wallpaper. You can imagine how changing the hardware would help these cabinets. Now I'm trying to decide what color I want to paint the kitchen. I want something that will compliment the cabinets and all this green glass I have on display. Have you guessed I have a thing for green glass?

When I was in second grade my dad gave me this big hunk of green glass he found on a job site. It was about the size of a large grapefruit. It was a big solid piece that had been chipped here and there. The chipped parts were shaped like big swirls. It was amazing the way light went through it. It was one of my favorite objects. I lost it when we moved up to the farm. I know it was in a box that also contained my sea shell collection that was stored in the barn. I'm sure it was taken a long time ago.

Nancy here. I'm posting anonymously because I can't remember my stupid password.
You know, that big tree is seriously leaning. We just had a big Douglass Fir go over on our street, so it makes me nervous. The liquid amber will be gorgeous in fall! I LOVE your furniture!!! OOh la la! The wood looks gorgeous on it. And it's great to see pictures of your new house finally! It looks great!!!
Happy Birthday Vivian and Doni's Dad!

Hey, is it Vivian's birthday, too? I think you mean Virginia.

Yeah, that tree is leaning but I don't think it's going to fall over. At least not until I take a chainsaw to it.

Isn't my furniture FUN? I've gone koo-koo for this stuff. The upholsterer was actually kind of excited to work on them. He'd never done anything like that before.

Drew's mother-in-law used to have yard sales to raise money for cat rescue. That sofa and chair were donated. She got too old to do the yard sales so that stuff sat in that trailer for several years. When we cleaned it out I saw that furniture and got pretty excited. The fabric was pretty ugly, kind of an icky greenish gold tapestry floral. The foam was completely flat. I'm so glad I kept them and had them re-done. It cost kind of a lot but I'm glad I did it.

Wow--I've been down with the flu and haven't checked the blog in days. That couch and chair PERfect! You chose exactly the right fabric. Those are really gorgeous. And your built ins are very nice.

I will be more effusive tomorrow. I'm going to go lie down.

The new digs look great! There's a good site for hardware- kitchencabinethardware.com- that I've dealt with recently with good results- my hardest thing was finding the right size( center to center drawer pull measurements) to replace the stuff I had.
I wish I could give you my parent's living room set from when i was a 'teen- a blonde-wood sectional sofa and tables including a kidney-shaped coffee table you would die for! Unfortunately, they are long-gone.
Hope the new job continues to get better and have fun decorating!
