Naked Trucker and a couple-a cars

Fun, fun show! We laughed the whole time. The Naked Trucker wasn't totally naked. He wore a loin cloth (an American flag loin cloth) and had his guitar positioned in the usual place, which would have kept him covered in the event of a loin cloth malfunction.

Saturday's show was a little different. Usually it's the Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show but T-Bones wasn't there this time. The Naked Trucker is Dave "Gruber" Allen. He's doing one of the voices for Moobeard. The drummer is Andy Paley, who is doing the music for Moobeard. Yes, there's a Kyle connection here. They also had some special guests performing. There was Andy Kindler who did some stand-up. He's a semi-regular on Everybody Loves Raymond. He had a kind of "insult the audience" act that was pretty funny. There was a guy (didn't get his name) who did a bit with a girl that was freakin' hilarious. He was dressed like Esteban with the hat and sunglasses. She came out holding a guiro and was striking poses and saying, "Meleeeeenda" into the microphone like she was the most fabulous woman on the planet. He kept saying, "She's not supposed to be out here" and she kept posing. It's hard to explain. I guess you had to be there. It was funny as hell. Later the two of them came back and recited some rude haiku. But the trucker's songs were the best. It was a great show.

Afterward Lindsay and Kyle introduced us to Andy Paley and Gruber. Andy is a chatty ball of energy. Gruber was very nice and mellow. I swear he must be 7 feet tall. We couldn't talk much. Too much after-show activity. I hope we can meet them again sometime.

The next morning Jim, Lindsay and I went to the OC auto auction. This time we got to preview the cars. Not a great selection. We ended up buying a '93 Taurus wagon. While Jim and Lindsay were inside waiting in line to handle the paperwork I went back out for the drawing they had at the end of the auction. They were giving away a tv and a car. We didn't win the tv.

We won the car. Don't get all excited. We won an auction car. It's a '90 Pontiac Grand Am. A total grandma car. After getting the paperwork handled, which took FOREVER, they brought out our cars. The Grand Am has one window that came loose from its frame and the other windows won't roll down more than a couple inches. There is no rear view mirror. Jim drove the Taurus home and Lindsay drove the Grand Prize. I followed her home. The Grand Prize was really smoking, especially when she accelerated. Jim said the Taurus clunks like the engine isn't properly mounted. Oh yeah, we brought home a couple of gems. Tomorrow they're both going in for service.

Lindsay really likes the Grand Am. Unless there's something terribly wrong with these cars we'll probably keep them and sell the truck. Paige will be 16 in July so we'll be needing another car anyway.

After we got home we went straight to Ken's to check out this new drummer. He seems like he's pretty good and I think he likes us. He can't practice on Fridays which is a bit of a problem. We can rearrange things to accomodate him. We do need a drummer. I hope he works out.

We got home around 7:30. It seemed so much later. What a freakin' long day. I was kind of stunned.

Man, I hope these cars won't be too expensive to fix.

Hey! Happy Birthday to Brother Atom Bomb Of Reflection! Happy Birthday Brian P! A late Happy Birthday to Brian K!

I'm so glad you liked the show! I didn't really know what to expect from a non-T-Bones show, and it looks like Gruber pulled out every card he had! Jim Turner who played both that Esteban guy and sang "Kiss My Stinky White Ass" and Mark Fite who played Marty are both in a three-man comedy troupe with Gruber called Two-Headed Dog. Jim was a regular on Arli$$.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Marty! He was great! That was a pretty big show for such a tiny stage.

Man, I just had one of the best walks up Mt. Rubidoux ever. I had Beaver Duck stuck in my head. Could that be the reason?

vsvamvy- A magic word. Very powerful. Don't say it out loud, just think it.

Ok, now you're done it! You just HAD to say it out loud, didn't you? I'll be cleaning this mess up for hours.

Amazing. Just now when we were coming home frm picking up Paige there was an accident at Central and Phoenix. It had just happened. The emergency vehicles hadn't shown up yet. It didn't look like anyone was hurt but one of the cars looked totaled.

So that's like, 3 accidents in 2 months at that intersection.

Does it make you wonder if maybe one of your two new cars have known that intersection? Cuz it sure sounds like it's an accident magnet.

Way cool on winning the car, good Karma.

Heh, heh! Tonight we were standing in line for Ramona's Spring concert and I noticed a small jet that was headed for the Riverside airport. I told Jim it really looked like it was flying low and he said, "It's headed for Phoenix and Central!" Cracked me up.

No, these cars are from out of state. We were happy to find out that they aren't flood cars from New Orleans. You have to be careful about that. Those flood cars are flooding the market right now. They clean them up and put new interiors in them and send them out with fake papers. After a while their electrical systems rot away. These are mostly new cars from N.O. area dealers. Our "new" cars are very, very old.

The Naked Trucker show was great.

The car auction was ...surreal. Three surreal auctions in three weeks. You shoulda seen Lindsay joyfully hopping around and shouting after we won the car. (coincidentally, Strongbad says "win a car for me" this week.)

I still prefer the old Riverside Government Fleet auction; these cars have not been nearly as well-cared-for as the two we bought at the Riverside auction, but it looks like it's going to turn out okay.

It's still possible that the Taurus is a Katrina car with falsified records, but I really doubt it. The Carfax history looks very consistent and has a lot of detail over the years.

Oh, and we found out that we can get a replacement windshield for our Chevy Venture van for only $370! Okay, I know you're thinking "so what?" but I initially got an estimate of $1750 on that windshield in Santa Rosa, and then got a much-improved estimate of $750 in San Bernardino, but have still been hesitant to throw that much money at the windshield even as a crack spread across the passenger side. But $370? Okay, I can deal with that! I ordered one to be installed this morning. I still don't understand how the price can vary by a factor of four.

Lots of car service stuff going on this week:
engine mounts and rear light repairs on the Taurus, window repairs and (hopefully just a ) tune-up on the Grand Mal, and the Venture gets a windshield. If that works out, we'll get a windshield for the Taurus, whose windshield has a strange lens-like deformation in it. But I expected for there to be some repairs...

We really enjoyed playing with new drummer Joe, and he seems to like what we're doing, so I'm optimistic about that too.

Or click on "vivage" and then click on "vivage pics and stuff" and you'll get right there.

Thanks for the heads up. I need to take pictures of mine and post them. Lindsay and Paige already snapped theirs up so I'll have to borrow them back for a pic.

I've been sculpting in Fimo trying to get a piece I can use to make a mold. I think that would be the best way to get the results I want. Years ago at Renaissance Faire I saw the cutest silver pendant. It was $35, which in those days was a lot for me. So I passed it up. Anyway, it was a rectangular shaped pendant with little symbols carved into it. It was a talisman to protect you from alien abduction!!! It was the coolest thing! I've been kicking myself ever since for passing it up.

Anyway, I'm using Fimo to make my own version. I haven't been able to come up with any symbols (maybe some of you can help me here) so I sculpted a tiny flying saucer in a square frame. It's pretty clunky and kind of large, which would use a lot of clay. I'm going to practice and try to get it down to a smaller size while keeping the detail I want. I need to get some small clay carving tools.

I also want to try that other kind of clay, the kind we didn't use in the class. Silver Art Clay? I wonder if you can get good deals on e-bay?

Changing the subject- Today I drove the Grand Mal to Mt. Rubidoux. Hoo boy. I felt like I should have been wearing Tammy Faye make-up, chewing gum and smoking a Virgina Slims. That car has a skanky interior. (Sorry, Lindsay. I know you like that car.) The dash display is bright red, like the control panel of a nuclear reactor. It feels foreign. Not because it's unfamiliar. It just feels foreign.

Good walk tonight. Usually I'm lagging behind Jeff. Tonight I kicked his ass.

Here's the Silver Art Clay site: http://www.artclayworld.com/

In the various discussion groups I lurk I've never seen any discussion on major differences in consistancy or behavior of the two brands as per our teacher. In the Yahoo group there are representatives from both SAC and PMC.

You can get the stuff on ebay but there is no real price break that I've seen. I can send you some links to places that have the best prices tho.

Yeah, get those girls to lend you their pieces...get your pics up!
