Happy Birthday, Stacey!

Big four-oh and looking great. Tonight we all went to BJ's for dinner. This was just a mellow pre-celebration. The bigger party will be in a couple weeks. An even bigger 40-50 party will happen this summer. We'll celebrate this milestone all year. Yee-haw!

Jim and I spent a mellow afternoon at Ken's messing around with music. I gotta work on my voice. I don't think it's fully recovered from those 2 head colds I had in December. It's very hard for me to sing right now. Nope, don't like that at all. I wonder if the affects of aging are starting to creep in? I was listening to some old Polar Bear recordings last night from about 15 years ago. Whoa. It's definitely changing. The voice does have a shelf life. Maybe if I work on it I can keep it for a few more years.

I'm listening to the new Fiona Apple cd (Christmas present from Jim. Thanks, sweetie!). Different direction for her. I think she's pretty awesome.

My art table is mostly cleaned off. I should go make something quick before it clutters up again. But...that's what will get it cluttered up. Ah, well.

Happy Birthday Stacey!

Hey, Donita, have you worked on that challenge I gave you last week? I guess I want you to mess up that table!

Well, I started on something else. Something I wanted to develop as a workshop. It's a star/mandala thingy made out of foam core. I always used to paint the individual pieces but I've been wanting to experiment with covering them with Japanese papers and different kinds of fabric. I was looking through my fabric drawer and came up with a bag of neck ties that I bought for another project. They're perfect! And they're all silk!

So yeah, the table is now a big mess. Yay!

Another thing...

Today is also the 19th anniversary of our mom's death. She was a woman who was immensely creative and fun loving. I miss her a lot. I know she would have enjoyed being involved in some of the things we're doing. She would have totally dug her grandchildren. My older sister's kids knew her but the rest of them came along after she was gone (except for Lindsay, she was almost 2 when Mom died).

So hey there, Mom. How are we doing?

Yay for art tables with productive work on them! Ahem, I've got some tables with my shit on them that need to be cleaned up cuz I'm never gonna finish those projects.

I miss my parents, both are deceased ('86 and '91). Love my MIL but she doesn't have the same mom vibe as my mom. Miss her especially. Zoe never met either of my parents but Liam was 18 months old when my mom died. I wish they all could have known each other.

I'd LOVE to see your unfinished projects.

Yeah, my kids got shortchanged in the grandma department. Jim's mom died about 2 years before my mom. Dad had a couple wives after Mom but they didn't stick. Jim's dad has a girlfriend that NOBODY likes.

I wish Jim's mom could have known our girls. She would have enjoyed them.

1. The people who live in that Mead ct. house are coming over one of these days to buy some potted trees. I'll tell them that story.

2. That was too precious. We walked in the front door and they were in the perfect "caught red handed" pose. I'll never forget the looks on their faces when we walked in. Thinking about it makes me laugh.

3. Wasn't that at your wedding? What was funnier (to me, anyway) was your drunk grandma going on and on about how cute she thought my mom was. Of course, the funniest thing of all was Chris' video.

Dean's grandma's best friend was Christine Jorgensen, the first American to get a sex change (big story in the 50s). They made a movie about her life called The Christine Jorgensen Story. Chris was a photographer and when Dean and Greg got married Chris videotaped the wedding. But she didn't use a brand new tape in the machine. After most of the guests had gone home we all gathered around the tv to watch the tape. Something apparently had gone a bit askew with the video camera. We were watching video of people going through the buffet line and then BAM, here's a scene from the Christine Jorgensen Story where young George Jorgensen is running down a pier and then leans over the rail and blows chunks! Then it cuts back to the wedding where Dean and Greg are cutting the cake!

That will always be one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life EVER. Bless you, Dean, for putting your wedding video on dvd.
