Damn chickens

They didn't hatch. Today I was notified that they're not considering me for that RCC job. Crapola. I really thought I had a good shot at this one. So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do to pull in some more money. I need a second job. The stores are hiring Christmas help right now. Maybe I can grab something at Target. Just thinking out loud here.

Hey, maybe I can get a job at Home Depot. Then I could get a discount on a water heater.

Sorry to hear it, Donita. The holiday help thing sounds like a good way to get a foot in the door someplace-is there any way your current job could become full time?
My receptionist had a job at the post office as a fill-in person for vacations, etc and it led to a regular Sat. job she uses to supplement her income. Good luck!

Aargh! Sorry about your job news. I applied to Solano Community College a month ago and haven't heard anything at all, which I think is very tacky.

Shudder, shudder - not Home Depot, Doni! You'd have to drug test, and tell people you don't work on the aisle they're interested in and you, therefore, can't possibly help them, and you'd likely only get a 10% off deal anyways ....and your feet would hurt because of walking on cement all the time....(Can you tell I'm not a big Home Depot fan?!?!?) Hey, what about painting decorative store-front windows for the holidays? Do they call that something like a window trimmer? I don't know how that works, but you'd be good at it - Heck, I'd let you paint my window, baby!!!

What a drag - I hope you got some info out of them - as in why they are not considering you. If you express your disappointment and desire for the job, and explain all you're doing with your education, who knows - maybe there's still hope. Even if they hire someone and it doesn't work out, they'll remember you for your effort.
Sorry to hear the bum news.

Well that sucks a big one.

Thanks, you guys. It does indeed suck a big one. I'm dealing with it.

Anne- My job probably won't go full time. Something about the way their job categories work and budget stuff and a bunch of other things I don't quite understand.

Mary- I wouldn't mind working at Home Depot. The drug test would be no problem. I like helping people on a sales floor. You're probably right about the discount. This afternoon I did a little research on water heaters. I still haven't found any good deals.

Nancy- It doesn't quite work that way. It's really pretty impersonal. You don't get to talk to anyone about why you aren't considered. I do have some connections, so I'll see what I can find out. I was off work today so I couldn't ask anyone. My boss might be able to tell me something.

Well, I talked to me boss about it. She said they probably already had someone in mind but they had to post the job anyway. That's why they never called me in for an interview. So there ya go.

Rats. Xmas window painting is a good idea, but you'd have to market yourself, which would take more time and effort than actually painting. Maybe there's a group in town that paints windows that you could work for.

How about the IRS? It's sit-down seasonal work. I bet you wouldn't have any problem getting hired. Let me see if they have offices in Riverside.

Hey, Doni, I applied for a job that I think is right across the hall from you.

In the Chancellor's office??? Oh man, that's a great job! I saw that posting. It's way over my head. The pay is reeeally good. Wow, if you got that job you'd be set. And you'd be working with great people. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Dean- I actually was considering the window painting thing when I was making my plan for breathing new life into Rancho Curioso. Jim's stroke put an end to that plan. I've never done window painting so I'd want to practice and work out how to do it and what kind of paint to use before I put myself out there. So, not this year.

IRS? That sounds like sooooo not me.

cents- Virginia will be making waaay more than that if she gets that Chancellor's assistant job.

Yes, that's the job. If you know anyone over there tell them to look for my application/resume. I almost asked you for a letter of recommendation.

I just need a face to face interview. Maybe you find out when they think they'll be interviewing. The job posting closes today.
