Open mike

This Sunday is open mike at the folk music center. We're doing a Kyle song. I think it's a good way to get the live TV's Kyle show going. So far we've got Kyle, Jim, Lindsay and me. Haven't heard back from John yet. Ken might be joining us. That tiny stage is gonna be full!

I'm practicing ukulele like mad. Trying to get the mush out of my fingers. There's a chord change that's kinda hard. I probably won't have it down by Sunday but I'm going to keep practicing and get it right for future shows. It's only one chord that's a problem and it goes by so fast I can skip it.

Dean's coming in tomorrow morning. Saturday we're going to Paige's drum line show in Valencia. We'll be back by early evening and Kyle will be here so we can practice. I'm really looking forward to it. Every time I hear these songs I can imagine what they'll sound like live. It's exciting!

Ok, back to house cleaning....

Nancy- It's an F#. The sticky part is going from an F to F# to G. I can do it as a bar chord but I don't have enough strength yet to make it sound nice and clear. Plus, it's a zippy song so the changes come fast. I'll get there. I used to play guitar so at least I've got some cellular memory to draw on. Right now it's just a matter of building strength in my left hand.

Kyle- Yes, I'll send it to you. I'm excited too! Actually, what I'm most excited about is getting to work on your stuff as a band. I just know it's going to sound great!

We just had our first practice tonight. What fun! Kyle on accordion, Jim on keyboard, Lindsay on sax and me on ukulele. It came together fast! That's a good sign. We've got 20 songs to learn and tonight's practice showed me that we all work well together. No surprise there.

And it sounds good! (GLEE!!!!)

Today Jim, Dean and I drove up to Valencia to see Paige's drum line show. We stayed and watched about 5 groups. It took most of the day. When we got home I fixed a big dinner- barbequed ribs and salad. We had Rory here, too. That's 7 people around our small kitchen table. It was great!

After dinner we came out to the studio and practiced for tomorrow night. We be smilin' big.

Yay, I can't wait to hear the gleeful sound.

When I was in second grade I was forced into taking accordian lessons. All I remember doing is C, major, major over and over. I only loved the accordian for the rhinestone set into the C on the keyboard. Other than that I hated the thing.

Oh, man! That was the BEST CFC open mike night, and our performance was really well-received.

What fabulous fun! The Odien boys all did a great job. Liam is really improving. You can see he's getting more comfortable in front of an audience. Jeff did Hey There Little Red Riding Hood. It turned into an audience participation piece. We all howled along and at the end people got creative with random animal sounds. Bill blew us all totally away with his rendition of Space Oddity. Good gravy, what a voice!

WE did GREAT! I'm very happy with that performance. Not bad at all for the first time out. Dean filmed it for us (BIG thank you, Dean!) and we've been watching it over and over. Yes, go to Jim's blog to see the videos. Dean also filmed our practice and Kyle doing a Weird Eddie pitch.

What a great weekend.

And now onward and upward.

Yeah, Bill has a voice on him and that song doesn't really show it off either. I mean it was great and all but shit howdy, he's even better than what you got to hear.

I think Liam has a similar voice but hasn't discovered it yet. He will.

I love all the joyous noise that all you singers make. Makes me happy.
