Merry Christmas?

This will go down as the not best Christmas ever. We've had worse. Spending Christmas with Dad's second wife's mother was pretty awful. And any time Bernie is in the picture it ain't fun.

I'm sick AGAIN. I'm pumped full of cold remedies. Right now Lindsay and Paige are out getting Chinese take-out. I only have a few gifts for the girls and none of them are wrapped. I'm going to muster up enough energy to wrap them after dinner. We've already talked to them about the thinness of this year's Christmas bounty. They understand. We're going to Dede's on Monday. We'll hit the after Christmas sales in San Luis Obispo and have a post holiday gift exchange.

I just can't get too worked up about the whole thing. Too much pressure. It is what it is and so it is. So let's move on.

Going to Dede's is always fun. This year I'm thinking it will be more relaxing and nurturing because we've all been through a ringer together. Debbie and Bob are here. Dad loves it when all of his kids can get together (we like it, too) and tree season is over so he can relax. There's nothing to fight about and there will be lots of activity to distract him. We're going to go wine tasting. We did that a couple years ago and had a very good time. Actually, I don't care of we just go up there and sit in the jacuzzi for 3 days and stare at the view.

Today we sold 5 trees. The Odiens came by and got a normal tree, a short normal tree for Zoe and a Charlie Brown stick for Liam. We had a very nice chat with them. No one else came by after they left so I was able to crawl back into bed and crash.

Anyway.... Even if it's not going to be the merriest of Christmases we'll still find a way to have a good time.

Ah, the Chinese food is here!

I'm glad you were able to go to sleep and crash. Sleep all the way up to SLO! Personally I think it would be a great idea to do Christmas after Christmas, get all the sales, spend less money and get more. Hmmmm, I wonder if it would fly in my house?

We had a good time chatting w/ you and Jim today. Hey, the view from the hill was spectacular!

The trees are a big hit with the kids and us. Yay! Thanks for the deal too. Good thing Stan didn't see the exchange. :-)

This Christmas may be weird, but it's still good.

All I know is I love my family a whole lot, especially Donita, Paige, and Lindsay.

Ok, so I realize things really weren't fun for all the adults, but I had a really nice time this Christmas. Working at the tree farm was much nicer since it was just family and friends. And I guess as I get older, I care less and less about gifts (although you already know I'm still love-happy from finally getting to be with Kyle.) I'm sorry your sick momma *hug* I wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you for giving me all you can to make me happy. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful family.

Oh jeez, make me cry why don't you! Thanks, sweetie. I know the gift thing isn't as important as it was when you girls were little but I do think the ritual of opening gifts together is still special and fun. I don't want to give it up just yet. I even still like the Santa thing in the morning.

I'm with you, this is a wonderful family. And it was much better working the sales shed with family and friends.

I'm also happy that you have Kyle and Paige has Rory. Those boys fit really well with our little scene and I enjoy being with them.

JIm has been and continues to be an amazing partner in all this. He does his best to take some of the Dad pressure off me and that means a lot. He also makes me laugh (a quick count of fur in the evening?). After things settle down a bit I think he and I should take a little trip somewhere.

Whew! Things seem to get magnified around Christmas time. Well, the hard part is over. I'm feeling a teeny bit better today. Tomorrow we drive to SLO.

I've been looking around the house at all the dust and cobwebs and clutter. I'm starting to feel revved up about cleaning. Real nitty gritty bucket and rag stuff. I want to get back to the GTD project. Time for some rebirth.

psst Legadillo, I've seen their set up, 2 computers side by side. So they can blog to each other while sitting next to one another. I love it.

Oh yeah and I wanted to say to Lindsey: Awwww, you make your parents all jello-like with those kinds of posts. We have good, no great children! Mwah, from one of your parents friends. :-)

(I know weird but can't help it, I'm a mom).

Well, for one thing, when we blog with each other we're also sharing this stuff with all of you. Sometimes we send e-mails sitting side by side. Lindsay sends e-mails from her laptop in her bedroom. I think it's pretty goofy but there it is.

Debbie, Bob and Dad came by tonight. I'm still in my scrungy jammies and not really ready to receive guests but hey, it's family. They stayed about an hour. I tried not to breathe on them. We need to finalize our SLO plans. There's so much to do but I can't get up the energy to do it tonight. Maybe I'll feel better in the morning.

Tonight Paige asked me if she could stay home and skip the SLO thing. Lindsay is staying home because Chelsey is coming to visit and she's taking care of numerous pets. It won't be that interesting for Paige but I think she should go anyway. Sometimes you just gotta do that family stuff.

Bleah, my energy just ran out. Goodnight and Merry Christmas.

We're still here. I felt crappy this morning and there was no way I was going to be able to get it together for a long drive. We're going to try to go tomorrow, just Jim and me. We'll stay for 2 nights and come back on Thursday. I think I can handle that.

So today I'm staying in bed as much as I can stand it. Chelsey is here. I wish I'd had the house ready for her visit. Oh well.

Jeez, energy drain already! I've only been up 10 minutes.

I'm still pretty tired too; I also have a cold, and haven't been sleeping as well as I usually sleep (which isn't too good). It took me most of the morning to get the car cleaned out and taken through a car wash. This time also allowed me to take Paige on some errands she wanted to make. It seems like December just plain vanished! (well, it did; into the tree shed.) I hope we can go tomorrow, and think that that would still give us decent visit-time. At least, I hope so.

Why I comment in my wife's blog:
I like how I can make lasting, public declarations of love and other such things; it's one thing to say directly to Doni that I love her, but slightly different to stick it out there for all to see. To me it's different somehow, more akin to putting it on a billboard.

I like to comment directly on whatever Doni's been writing about, and this _is_ the forum for that. Believe me, it's not our _only_ channel of communication.

It's probably still new enough to be novel; it's not conscious for me, but probably there anyway.

I can respond to what's been said about what's happening at any time of the day, for example, 3:24 AM.

I can think about what I'm saying; I could do the same thing in email (or even less likely, in handwritten snailmail script), but there are other advantages to the blog (see above).

I get to make up definitions to these weird verification "words" (but some are better than others).

Omagaw, I feel better! One more night of solid rest and a few more sprays of Zicam oughta do it. Jim and I are going to SLO tomorrow.

I like it, I like communication between peeps via blog. I like the conversations, the insight, the sense of community.

And yeah, Jim I like the ability to say what I want to say at whatever time I'm up and at the keyboard!

I hope your cold is getting better and your sleep gets better too!

Have fun up in SLO and keep writing, all of you!

Heh, tease away, Deanerino, I'm fine with it, I'm just a sick, tired old guy (there's still humor in me, it's just asleep)...

Anyway, once I got started on "reasons to blog Doni," it got a bit of a life of its own, heh...
