Got a big, fat letter from the IRS. They say I owe almost $2,000 tacked on to last year's taxes. I compared their info to my tax return and discovered there was one statement that didn't get included. It's from one of my investment accounts. I called my tax guy to discuss it with him, but I already knew I was screwed. He just confirmed it. I must pay.
Gonna be more careful this year.

Ugh. I hate how easy it is to screw up taxes! One little misstep and you owe thousands of dollars. And there's no system to check in on you, go, "Hey, you forgot this form, can we have it?" It's not like you were setting out to commit fraud, it was an honest mistake! Blargh...makes me mad.

Usually I'm pretty organized with the tax stuff, but this one piece got misplaced. This year I have a file folder for all the tax stuff to which I attached a list of all the W2's and such that I need to be on the lookout for. that should help.
